Environmental Compliance

The PMI AIRS Project balances effective spraying with established environmental compliance practices.  IRS begins by assessing the availability of facilities for safely and securely storing pesticide and other commodities, and for conducting post-spray cleaning in an environmentally sound manner. AIRS monitors seasonal changes in vector density and their resting habits and uses this information to maximize the impact of IRS. Even when using pre-existing sites, it is highly likely that renovations or repairs will be needed after the interlude between campaigns. Before launching spray operations, AIRS completes a pre-spray inspection and develops a work plan to ensure facilities are environmentally compliant.

In addition to assessing facilities, the PMI AIRS Project trains and supervises spray operators to confirm personnel understand how to safely conduct IRS. During spray operations, personnel follow the Best Management Practices established by the PMI.
