Kenya
Under the PMI AIRS Project, PMI has tasked Abt Associates – working as AIRS Kenya – with restarting IRS operations in Kenya for the first time since 2012. Specifically, AIRS Kenya supports NMCP’s planning, facilitation, delivery, supervision and post-spray assessments of IRS operations by providing spray equipment and technical assistance on best practices. The overall goal of 2016’s IRS campaign is to reduce malaria morbidity and mortality in two targeted sub-counties in Migori County while simultaneously building the capacity of the NMCP, Migori County and sub-county staff to deliver an effective IRS intervention. Later in 2016, AIRS Kenya will begin planning the 2017 IRS campaign that is expected to expand IRS throughout the endemic transmission zone surrounding Lake Victoria. In addition to supporting IRS, AIRS Kenya works closely with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) to provide entomological monitoring data from IRS intervention areas in Western Kenya. Entomological surveillance includes resistance monitoring, vector density and behavior, and insecticide residual life.
